The Heirs~Episode 3 & 4 Review

Ahh this week has been so hectic! I've had a test almost everyday. College is hard!

That is why I STILL haven't been able to watch episode 5 & 6 of Heirs and am only now reviewing episode 3 & 4...

Well, I'll start with my review which are really just ramblings of what I remember of the 2 episodes... I promise I'll write better reviews next time!

I'll start by saying  love where the story is going! And I love it even more that the pace is pretty good. You don't have to wait a long time for something to happen but the build-up is good too. I can only hope that they continue to do such a good job.

Moving on to the characters, I'm really liking Eun Sang, Park Shin Hye's character! She's rational and I like how she rejects Kim Tan because he already has a fiancé. She's not someone who has unreal dreams and she has seen enough to know the world is not all roses. In short, she's not naive which I was expecting her to be so I am really relieved that that's not the case. Still, it's too early to say that she's one of my favourite characters. I haven't really felt a "connection" with her yet. Does that sound weird? I don't know how to describe what I mean :P

Kim Tan (Lee Min Ho's character), I'm so glad he's not one of those obnoxious, rich jerks (like Jun Pyo and Chi Soo)! I fully expected him to be as Kdramas like these always have male leads like those. But Tan's different. He seems nice and, as I said before, his character is complex. Plus look at baby Tan:

He just got rejected and scolded by a brother he loves and he's on the verge of crying and he looks so cute!! Oh, I want to hug him! My poor baby Tan! Oh and jealous Tan is even cuter!

In short, Tan is definitely my favourite character so far. I'm really looking forward to see where his story goes.

Ahh Choi Jin Hyuk is so amazing! I LOVED him in Panda & Hedgehog but I NEVER thought that he could play such a cold character! I mean look at his smile!

But in this drama he's so mean and cold. But I still love him! How can you not love Choi Jin Hyuk? And his acting's pretty good too.

Rachel is really annoying! She's mean and rude. But her acting is really good! The actress has played this character really well.

I know I've said this in my previous reviews but my review will not be complete unless I mention how cute Chan Young is! He's such an awesome friend, a great boyfriend and a really good son! He's an amazing guy and I really really love him!

I really don't like this guy. I know that he has family issues and probably a troubled past too but I just can't seem to bring myself to feel sorry for him. I just really don't like him. Plus (please don't kill me!) Idon'treallylikeKimWooBin'sacting!

His first meeting with Eun Sang wasn't that special either. Sure, it was funny. But it wasn't memorable. In fact I had to read episode recaps to remember how the meeting went. I just remembered how weird it was that Eun Sang was walking around practically asleep. Does that actually happen to anyone? It has never happened to me...

Oh my God, I love the ahjumma-wars! It's been a while since I watched a drama, or anything, with ahjumma-wars in it so this got me pretty excited! Am I weird for liking this stuff? Well maybe I am... But who cares?! I am what I am :P

I love this mom-daughter relationship! Mostly because I'm really close to my mom. Plus the relationship is shown very realistically. Eun Sang is sometimes rude to her mother but she loves her too.

Is it weird that I really like the relationship between Lady Han and Eun Sung's mom? I feel like Eun Sung's mom does care about Lady Han and that for Lady Han, Eun Sung's mom is the closest person she has in the household. Am I reading too much into the relationship?

This American dude makes me wince every time he appears on the screen. He makes me feel so uncomfortable and I really don't like watching him and his weird acting! I hope he doesn't return for any other episode! Since Tan returned to Korea, the chances are high that he won't.

Lastly, I would like to mention, I was so happy to see Heechul make a cameo on the show! I didn't know he was going to, so when I saw him I was like "OhmyGod that's Kim freaking Heechul!!!" I was fangirling so hard! :D

Well, I'm really looking forward to the next episode as now the real fun begins! Tan's back in Korea and school's starting soon. Can't wait to watch the next 2 episodes!

Book Review~Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith

Title: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Author: Seth Grahame-Smith
Publisher: Quirk Classics
Pub Date: May 1st 2009
Format: Paperback
Pages: 319
Genre: Fantasy, Humor, Historical Fiction

Synopsis: “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.”

So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you’d actually want to read.

Rating: 9/10
Source: Bought.
Cover Talk: This cover is so cool! It catches everyone's eyes! And I'm not even kidding. Even people who didn't know about Pride and Prejudice asked me what this book was about because the cover caught their eye.

My Thoughts: Wow! I loved this book! I was not expecting to, I mean I was excited about reading it but then I was also nervous that what if this turns out to be a disaster. But it didn't! I know some of you might not agree with me and believe me I love Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice but this book wasn't that bad.

The zombie twist in the story was pretty interesting. And it was very well presented, in my opinion. I really enjoyed reading it. I found it funny how everyone was so used to people dying because of zombies that they didn't mind much when someone died in front of them. In fact, they were pretty cool about it.

The changes in the story, like the thing about Charlotte and Lady Catherine, they were all very interesting variations and gave the book it's own identity instead of being a retelling with very little original content.

My favorite part was reading those famous dialogues changed into something funny and zombie-related. Here are some of my favorites:

"Have your ninjas left you?"
"We never had any ninjas."
"No ninjas! How was that possible? Five daughters brought up at home without any ninjas! I never heard of such a thing. You mother must have been quite a slave to your safety."

"You are mistaken, Mr. Darcy, if you suppose that the mode of your declaration affected me in any other way, than as it spared the slightest grief which I might have felt in beheading you, had you behaved in a more gentlemanlike manner."

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it if you are in the mood of reading something different. I think you will enjoy this if you have read Pride and Prejudice and if you read this one with an open mind and not with the intention of comparing and analysing it.

The Heirs~Episode 2

I gotta say, I'm beginning to really like this drama! I even find myself waiting for the next episode!

As I said in my review of the first episode, Park Shin Hye's acting is much better in this drama. The rest of the cast is pretty good too. Lee Min Ho is a bit different in this drama. His character is sort of mysterious and complex. He reminds me a lot of Stefan (from Vampire Diaries). I'm really looking forward to see where his story goes.

I've only seen Choi Jin Hyuk in Panda & Hedgehog and his acting here is so different from there! In Panda and Hedgehog he was so adorable and cute but in this one he's so serious and evil-like! But I liked him here too. It was nice to see him in this kind of a role.

Other than these 3 actors, the rest of the cast is new to me. Except that lady who was in Secret Garden (picture above). I hated her there and I hate her here too. PSH's character's friend is so cute! His girlfriend is annoying! The guy who likes LMH's characters (sorry, I haven't learned the names of the characters yet) fiance... I don't like him. I don't like the fiance either so I guess they'll be perfect together. Plotting away the destruction of others, getting everything their way through scheming. Yup, match made in heaven (or hell) I say!

For now, these are the characters who caught my attention. I'm glad there wasn't much English in this episode. Lee Min Ho's voice is so much prettier (and sexier) when he's talking in Korean!

The story is going on an interesting path. Kim Tan's (that's Lee Min Ho's character's name, right?) family secrets, the love triangle. I'm really looking forward to watching it all!

So, if you're still contemplating on weather you should watch this drama or not, I would say go ahead! The story and romance looks promising and the acting is pretty good too. I just hope we are not disappointed. Lets keep our fingers crossed and wait for the next episode! Oh and if you have watched the 2 episodes then comment below on what you thought about them!

Original Channel: tvN
No. of Episodes: 16

Synopsis: Yang Eun Bi is a college student preparing for her civil service exam with the dream of being a high school teacher. She accidentally encounters Cha Chi Soo, the arrogant son of the biggest food conglomerate in Korea. Both of them end up working at a ramyun shop run by the lazy Choi Kang Hyuk.

My Rating: 8.5/10

My Thoughts: It's been a while since I saw this drama so my review may not be that good. I'll let you know what I remember about this drama...

Characters: I remember that at first I didn't like the female lead but over the course of the drama she grew on me. I'm not saying that I started liking her, but she became tolerable. She was annoying at times and she had no self respect. Plus she was weird and selfish. She wanted both guys for herself and she was plying them both. Yes, she wasn't doing that by scheming and stuff but she was hanging on to both of them instead of choosing one. Kinda like Elena (from Vampire Diaries). This annoyed me about her.

Cha Chi Soo... I really didn't like him in the beginning. I found him funny, actually. But then I started liking him. He wasn't that bad and he was pretty good looking. But he was selfish throughout the drama. People argue that he changed and became a better person at the end but I don't agree with that. He still seemed pretty selfish at the end, to me.

Ba Wool was so adorable and cute! I really really liked him. Yes, he loved Yoon So Yi and so he let her use him. But I like how he also stood up for himself. His personality was a lot like my little brother's...

Hyun Woo was a nice character but he wasn't shown as much as I would've liked for them to show him. His story had a lot of potential and I think that they should have explored it more. Not just use it as a small side plot. I think he should have had a bigger role.

Now for my favorite character, Choi Kang Hyuk! Aaahhh!! This guy is just... perfect!! He's hot and tall and sweet and adorable and cute and just perfect! I had a major second lead syndrome at the beginning of the show. But then I realised that Eun Bi did not deserve someone as amazing as him. So I was very happy that he wasn't the one Eun Bi would end up with. She was right with Cha Chi Soo. Leave Kang Hyuk for someone better! The way he says manora is so cute! And he's so funny in how he's lazy and sleeps anywhere and everywhere! I just really really loved him!

I don't remember many of the minor characters... Eun Bi's teacher friends were OK. They were funny at times. Cha Chi Soo's dad was very weird. He bathe a lot :P Like, in every other scene he was shown in a hot tub. Yoon So Yi was a spoiled brat. I hated her! She used Ba Wool and strung him along and she really annoyed me.

Story: I'm not much of a fan of "noona-romances" but this one was okay. The story was interesting and I really did enjoy the drama a lot. I don't know what else to say... the story was really good but not one of the best in the kdrama world.

Overall: I would recommend this drama if you like noona romances or if you're just looking for a romance. It does have nice kisses and the story is pretty good. Overall, it's enjoyable and worth your time.

My First Time Experience of Watching an On-going Drama/Heirs~My Thoughts on the First Episode

I've watched a couple of on-going anime but I didn't like them much so it was okay with me even if I had to wait a week for the next episode. I've also watched on-going TV shows (Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries). These are shows I LOVED (and love)! So waiting for the next episode to come out was torture! And waiting for three-four months for the next season was even worse!

I watched the first episode of Heirs last night but I'm not sure where it falls. I'm not dying to watch the next episode but I'm also mildly looking forward to it.

Here's some info for those who don't know about the drama: Kim Tan is heir to the Empire Group sent to study abroad in the U.S. In reality it's a form of exile, as his elder half-brother back home schemes to take over the family business. While in the States, Kim Tan bumps into Cha Eun Sang, who arrived from Korea in search of her older sister. He feels himself falling for her, never realizing that she's the daughter of his family's housekeeper. When his fiancée Rachel Yoo arrives to bring him back to Korea, his heart is torn between love and duty. (Taken from: MDL)

I had originally planned on not watching it. The promotions didn't attract me much and I really really really really really really don't like Park Shin Hye. But I love love LOVE Lee Min Ho. So the I decided that I would watch the drama once all the episodes are out. But after the premiere the reviews and stuff was popping up everywhere and most people said that the drama was good. So I couldn't resist and gave it a try.

I didn't know, before watching the drama, that it would be (or a part of it at least) taking place in LA. So in the first few seconds I thought I has accidentally opened some other, American, show. But then I saw Lee Min Ho's face and was reassured that I was at the right place.

Now, my first impression of Lee Min Ho was "OMG Lee Min Ho looks so much like my kid brother!" You see, my brother is 12 years old. And they were trying really hard to make Lee Min Ho look young. Though he did not look like a 12 year old, his hair and clothes were very much like my brother's. And while my brother looks really cute in his hairstyle, I did not like the hairstyle much on Lee Min Ho.

Now the English/Engrish... Well, I'll be honest, it made me laugh at times. Park Shin Hye's and other character's English wasn't that bad, I guess because they had fewer lines in that language, but poor Lee Min Ho had so many lines and English and it showed how hard it was for him to say them and I kinda felt sorry for him and I feel bad about laughing... OK, I'll stop my rant now.

Sorry, couldn't find a better picture of the dude :P

But the Engrish didn't make me laugh as much as LMH's American friend did. With his "Yeah!" and over-excited, forever ready to partayy acting, he was very weird. The other Americans were OK though...

Now lets move on to Park Shin Hye. I was pleasantly surprised with PSH! Her acting was pretty good and her character wasn't that bad either. Plus I found myself getting a bit fond of her. That's MAJOR improvement considering I disliked her so much that I avoided everything that related to her in any way.

I did like the first episode. The story looks interesting and the acting was pretty good. It's still too soon to say weather I'll love this drama or not. But for now, it has captured my attention enough to make me continue with it.

I'll go watch the second episode now. I'm sorry I didn't give a detailed review of the episode, I didn't want to give out any spoilers plus I'm not so sure at this point about how I feel about everything. Maybe after the second episode my thoughts will be more clearer and then I'll write up a better review :)

HIATUS

Hey! I'm still alive, if you were wondering... Though I think college will be the death of me .

Gosh, I'm so tired! All the time! College is HARD! Especially when you're studying to get into a medical college and be a doctor. I still do find time to read (on the bus, to and from college) but I haven't had ANY time to write reviews. Even now, as I'm writing this update post, I'm in a hurry because I have to go to the academy in 20 minutes (and I have to get ready too so I'll make this quick).

Since I don't have much time to post I'll be putting this blog on hiatus (for a long time). I was going to shut it down but then I thought 'What if I feel like posting and do get the time to do it but won't have anywhere to post?' So I'm going to leave the blog like this, for now. So, if you want, you can read my previous posts. And if I get the time I may put up some new posts too. I do have a couple of posts in Drafts. I just need the time to type out the content.

OK, So I'm going to go get ready. I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend and that it's not as busy and hectic as mine is. Take care!

XOXO ~ Hira
